Clos Rougeard isn't only one of the great wines of the Loire; it's one of the great wines of the world.
Rougeard is, without a doubt, among the most aristocratic and longest-lived wines of the Loire.
They possess depth, precision, and refinement that's without peer.
Today, I'm very happy to offer Clos Rougeard's 2014 Saumur-Champigny Les Clos for $219.95 per bottle and $207.95 in 3-packs.
The 2014 vintage in the Loire is one of the best in the past couple of decades. The wines are incredibly complete with verve, finesse, and concentration. As you could guess, Rougeard's collection is killer.
The Clos bottling is a blend of different sites but, like Roumier's Chambolle or Coche's Meursault AC, the Clos transcends any barriers that the label of "basic bottling" would usually carry. Bottles with a couple of decades of age have been jaw-droppingly good.
In a vintage like 2014, the Clos bottling is elevated to a seriously impressive level. You get a haunting depth and a crazy level of complexity. The wine delivers notes of sandalwood, kelp, and truffles along with brighter elements, like red fruits, violets, and spice.
The wines of Rougeard have blown up, and with each passing year, the wines have grown harder to find. The sale of Rougeard to the Bouygues brothers, owners of Château Montrose, in 2017 marks the end of 8 generations of the Foucault family at the estate. The 2014 collection seems posed to be one of the final monuments to the Foucault family's incredible work.
It probably goes without saying that the 2014 Clos is extremely limited. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
