Eleni and Edouard Vocoret's Chablis' were great from the start, and then in the past few vintages, they took off to incredible heights.
Their 2020s represent yet another high-water mark. You don't have to look any further than Bas de Chapelot. It is a staggeringly good Chablis.
Bas de Chapelot is a formidable site. It sits below the famed 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre. The combination of tension-filled detail and concentration makes Bas de Chapelot a perennial favorite of mine.
In 2020, Bas de Chapelot is blazingly clear and seriously intense. It boasts a penetrating Chablisienne minerality. The total package delivers a level of concentration and precision that you almost never see at the villages level.
Edouard and Eleni met in New Zealand in 2010. Edouard's family owns Domaine Vocoret & Fils, a large and well-known Chablis domaine. Upon returning to France, Edouard took a few hectares of his family's holdings and started the domaine.
Eleni & Edouard produce Chablis exactly as I like it. They are elegant and emphatically mineral but are also backed by tons of substance. Don't miss this.

Burghound: "A deft but perceptible application of wood sets off slightly riper yet still cool and pure aromas of green apple, pear, lemon-lime and oyster shell. The tender but still punchy medium-bodied flavors possess excellent depth for a villages level wine along with very fine length on the mouth-watering finish. Lovely and one to look for."
