Bachelet-Monnot's 1er Cru La Fussière Rouge has become one of the essential red Burgundy values of the store.
At $48.95, this is a red Burg that punches well above its weight.
Bachelet-Monnot makes revelatory expressions of Burgundy. In 2005, brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet founded Bachelet-Monnot. In no time their wines were turning the heads of even the most seasoned Burgundy tasters. Maranges is their home turf, and they elevate the appellation far beyond what you'd expect.
The style of Bachelet-Monnot is animated by impeccable balance and precision. Their Maranges bottlings maintain an expertly judged rustic edge that stays true to the appellation. However, they also manage to tease out an extraordinary amount of finesse from their sites.
The 2022 Fussière Rouge amplifies the elegance and purity that they manage to capture in their Maranges. The purity of fruit and finely etched minerality is impressive. It's a perfect example of why I love to drink the 2022. I like Burghound's tasting note when he writes that it has a "borderline pungent minerality, indeed the mouthfeel is like rolling a small pebble on one's tongue... Lovely and understated."
I'm going to wrap this up. I bought every bottle that was available, but it's still a fairly modest parcel. At this price and with Bachelet-Monnot's reputation, I doubt these bottles will stick around for long.
