2019 Berthaut-Gerbet Gevrey-Chambertin Combe du Dessus

Posted by Ian McFadden

Last week, we offered Berthaut-Gerbet's Fixin and there was a deluge of orders.

Today, we're happy to offer the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe du Dessus.

The interest in the offer wasn't surprising. In 2013, at just 25 years old, Amélie Berthaut took over the majority of her mother and father’s separate estates to form Berthaut-Gerbet. Her wines immediately created a major stir.

Berthaut's 2019s show a breathtaking finesse and multifaceted personality. The vintage firmly plants her as one of Burgundy's top talents.

This is easy to see in the Gevrey-Chambertin Combe du Dessus. This is a well-situated site just below the 1er Cru Cazetiers. Berthaut-Gerbet's old vine holdings bring an extra layer of intensity.

The 2019 is a beautiful marriage of power and energy. There's an ample amount of Gevrey's soil accented dark fruits. This is complemented by a radiant core that gives the muscular nature of the wine a sense of delicacy and poise. In short, this is a dynamite bottle.

I encourage you to get your orders in early. Our 2019 red Burgundy offers have been met with huge responses.

Burghound: "Once again there is excellent freshness to the very pretty mix of upper and lower register pinot fruit with pungent earth, humus and subtle floral wisps. The succulent and again utterly delicious medium weight flavors possess lovely definition while delivering excellent length on the markedly firm and youthfully austere finale. This is a relatively big Gevrey villages that will require at least a decade of aging to be at its best. Lovely."
