Along with Coche-Dury and Lafon, Roulot is one of the standard bearers of Meursault.
No one has influenced the younger generation of white Burgundy producers the way Roulot has.
Roulot's work with Chardonnay is on another plane. No one renders the grape with such a riveting expression - razor sharp, indisputably noble, and emphatically mineral.
One of the best places to witness this is Roulot's Meursault Villages bottling. The villages designation is very deceiving. In 2016, it delivers an incredible amount of class, finesse and delineation.
Sadly, it's also in much shorter supply than usual in 2016. Roulot saw a drastic reduction in yields in the vintage (less than half of normal production). Roulot has achieved superstar status and in any vintage the wines quickly disappear from the market.
I'm probably causing myself a major headache by saying this, but the 2016 Meursault Villages is gorgeous. It boldly displays Roulot's magical touch rendering Meursault of intensity, exacting precision, and thrilling agility.
