Magic in Meursault
2018 Pierre Boisson Grands Charrons

Posted by Ian McFadden

The Boisson family makes Meursault exactly as we like it: intensely mineral, nervy, and with perfectly-judged richness.

The Grands Charrons is always one of the high points of the lineup.

It offers up Meursault’s intense minerality and tell-tale nutty richness, but with even more complexity, depth, and refinement. Bernard Boisson, Pierre’s father, calls it exuberant and "the most Meursault-y" of their three best lieux-dits. This description is spot on.

Boisson turned out gorgeous 2018s and the Grands Charrons is easily one of our favorites from the vintage. It delivers a saturating minerality and power. For all of its intensity, there's also an astonishing level of detail.

Pierre Boisson is good friends with Jean-François Coche's son, Raphael, and there are some parallels that are worth mentioning. Both producers turn out incredibly precise wines with an emphatic minerality and finesse.

Every time that we open one of Boisson's wines, we are amazed by the response. Boisson has a cult following and the wines quickly disappear. We suggest that you get your order in early.
