The villages designation is very deceiving.
It seems like Burgundy's hierarchies based on centuries of accumulated wisdom are suspended when it comes to Roulot's Meursault Villages. It is world-class.
Last week, we offered Roulot's 2018 Meursault Villages. Today, we're happy to offer the 2019 & 2020 vintages, two absolutely stunning vintages of the wine.
As we wrote last week, Roulot's Meursault is razor-sharp, indisputably noble, and emphatically mineral. Roulot makes some of the most riveting expressions of Chardonnay on earth and the Meursault Villages makes this clear.
The 2019s combination of snap and punch is simply thrilling. The layers of stone fruits, spice, and minerals are crystal clear. Its power is beautifully buoyed by a racy acidity.
The 2020 Meursault Villages has an absolutely lovely combination of cut and concentration. This is a magical vintage for this bottle. It has a refinement and sense of completeness that is rarely encountered.
The fact that Roulot's Meursault exists on its own plane isn't surprising. Besides being one of the masters of Chardonnay, Jean-Marc Roulot sources the Meursault from great lieu-dits. The majority comes from Clos de la Baronne with the remainder coming from Les Gruyaches, Narvaux, Sous la Velle, and Les Crotots.
This is an extraordinary duo of vintages for Roulot's Meursault Villages. I'm really happy to have the opportunity to offer these wines. It should not be missed.
