If you had to neatly explain why Pierre-Yves Colin is included among Burgundy's absolute greats, purity and rigor would work perfectly.
The wines have a crackling energy, a clarity of fruit, and exacting precision that dazzles.
For me, one of the best places to witness all of this is his work in Chassagne. He captures the village with an exhilarating masterful touch. There may be no one in the village making more compelling wines.
Pierre-Yves Colin takes Chassagne's floral inflected richness and makes it explode with complexity with beautifully clear layers of stone fruits, flowers, spice and wet stone.
In Colin's 2016s, the signatures of verve, power, length and elegance are on bold display. The vintage offers the ideal platform for him to shine.
Abbaye de Morgeot is a choice parcel of the Morgeot 1er Cru. Compared to the rest of Morgeot, you sense a distinctive grandeur of scale and refinement. It's a wine of soaring complexity and detail. The 2016 Abbaye de Morgeot Cuvée Clement et Emma is deep and saturating for sure, but what really endears the wine to me is its finesse.
There's no doubt that Pierre-Yves Colin is making some of the most compelling white Burgundies around. The wines of Colin-Morey have fully achieved cult status. Whenever we offer Colin-Morey, it sells out quickly. Our last 2016 offering was oversold in a matter of hours. I strongly advise you to jump on this.
