Mastery On Display, Part II:
2022 Génot-Boulanger Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières

Posted by Ian McFadden

As we said last month, Génot-Boulanger's 2022s are absolutely brilliant.

In this vintage, their wines are a pitch-perfect expression of the vintage with amazing concentration and clarity. There is mastery on display in the 2022s.

As is often the case, the Puligny 1er Cru Les Folatières is one of the high points of their collection. I'm happy to offer this outrageous success at the lowest price in the nation.

The 2022 boasts plenty of tension and finesse. It's extremely high-toned and lifted with complex citrus notes. Vinous Media's Neal Martin writes that the wine is "very persistent on the finish. Excellent."  That captures the wine well.

The 2022 Folatières shows Génot-Boulanger firing on all cylinders. There's incredible intensity and precision with serious drive. The quality of the wines has soared since 2008 when Aude and Guillaume Lavollée took over this 4th-century domaine. The combination of prime holdings and meticulous winemaking has recently put Génot-Boulanger on the map for serious Burgundy drinkers.

Over the past few years, there has been no other Burgundy producer that more customers have thanked us for introducing them to than Génot-Boulanger. The 2022s join Génot-Boulanger's 2017s and 2019s to form a triumvirate of extraordinary vintages. This is simply a not to be missed bottle.

Burghound: "The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a similar bouquet to the La Garenne albeit with more intensity and slightly more tension. The palate is well-balanced with a citrus-fresh entry hints of apricot and quince and a dab of lemongrass leaving a spicy note on the tongue after the wine departed. Very persistent on the finish. Excellent."
