For many years, Arnot-Roberts has been producing some of the most exciting wines in California.
Their range covers everything from Cabernet, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay to obscure field blends and varietals like Ribolla Gialla and Trousseau.
Even after tasting Arnot-Roberts' for over a decade, each year there's a wine that profoundly surprises. This year, it was their Sauvignon Blanc from the Randle Hill Vineyard.Â
To be frank, we often find ourselves dismissive of California Sauvignon Blanc. With that said, in a tasting of over twenty wines, this Sauvignon Blanc leaped out at us.Â
Arnot-Roberts' style is about freshness, delicacy, and nuance. Their approach results in an irresistible expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts are huge fans of Loire wines, and their work with Sauvignon Blanc makes this clear. The 2022Â Sauvignon Blanc has a mineral tension that shares an obvious kinship with the Loire. It's a wine that's more about stoniness than fruit. It's light, nimble, and racy.Â
Randle Hill Vineyard is in Mendocino County's Yorkville Highlands and is an organically farmed vineyard that sits at an elevation of 1,100 feet. The Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted in 1982. It's apparent that the vineyard leaves its mark in the wine's saline intensity and shocking freshness.Â
With temperatures on the rise as we head into the dog days of summer, this is a wine to stock up on. This will undoubtedly be one of the most surprising, exciting, and fun bottles you'll taste this summer.Â
