François Chidaine is undoubtedly one of the most skilled winemakers in the Loire.
What makes Chidaine's wines stand out is their clarity. They are crystal clear and gorgeously composed.
Chidaine's style is sleek, polished, and elegant. This refinement doesn't come at the expense of terroir, but instead magnifies it. This underscores just how precise Chidaine is, and how shockingly transparent his wines are.
For me, Chidaine's Montlouis Bournais is consistently his best wine. In 2021, Bournais is stunning for its pristine expression, its length, and complexity.
Bournais is a special site. It's a rare limestone outcropping. The vineyard was abandoned until Chidaine replanted it in 1999. Chidaine refers to the site as a "magical place."
At its best, the 2021 vintage in the Loire is a delightful and seriously impressive throw-back vintage. There's a soaring verve that we've missed in recent vintages.
The 2021 Bournais Sec has a seldom seen combination of concentration, balance, and classical proportions that only special vintages deliver. The balance and the sense of energy that the wine delivers are just lovely. There's a cut to the 2021 Bournais that's reminiscent of Mosel Riesling.
Along with Chardonnay and Riesling, Chenin forms the holy trinity of noble white grapes. In Chidaine's hands, this couldn't ring truer. We're excited to watch this bottle evolve over the next 5-7 years and beyond. There are few better values for the cellar.
We've been fans of Chidaine's wines for close to two decades and the 2021 Bournais is a standout. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the special 4-pack pricing. This is something worth having around in quantity.
