Montrachet Double-Magnums
2007 Drouhin Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche
Exceptional Pricing for a Serious Rarity
It's sort of hard to find the right words to discuss bottles this big - literally and figuratively. It deserves reverence and awe, yes, but sheer joy isn't entirely out of line, either...
There are many who say that the Marquis de Laguiche parcel is the greatest in all of Montrachet, and that Montrachet is the greatest white wine vineyard in the world.
Domaine Drouhin has farmed this prestigious, 2.06-hectare vineyard since 1947, though it has belonged, since 1363, to one of the oldest aristocratic families in France, from whom it takes its name.
In regular bottles, this is a wine for the ages. In double-mags, well…
If ever there were an appropriate time to pull out words like "monumental," "cellar cornerstone," or "jewel of a collection," this would be it.
Today, for those of you looking for any of the above, we have a tidy little/HUGE offering: 2007 Drouhin Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche jeroboams at $1928.95 a 3.0L.
There is absolutely no compare-at pricing to speak of here, other than to say that a smattering of other retailers in the U.S. have fifths - 750ml bottles… at an average of around $650. Quick calculation: $650 x 4 = $2600.
You could figure, then, that today's jeros are 25% off the same quantity, if you like - such a discount is practically unheard of, as larger formats usually see considerable upcharges.
The Marquis de Laguiche site is situated entirely in Puligny, and the wines deliver a powerful dose of dark minerals and seemingly endless nuanced layers of exotic wild flowers, ripe and honeyed fruits, the whole package coursing with vibrancy and vitality, especially with the higher acid of the 2007 vintage.
This is one of the best, most cellar-worthy white Burgundy vintages of the last decade, even the last two decades. The Burghound neatly notes "the excellent underlying material and impeccable balance" in his testament for its longevity, and we have to believe that this will sleep peacefully in the cellar for at least another 20-30 years.
These kinds of offers come around but once in a blue moon, and we’ve riled up quite a fan base for large-format Drouhin from our previous offers for a few of their reds, so if you have any interest in these veritable cellar treasures, please email us at offers@crushwineco.com or call the store at (212) 980-9463. We have just a handful to go around, so we’ll take all orders and make allocations as necessary.

Marquis de Laguiche JEROS
Burghound: "In contrast to the relative expressiveness of the majority of the prior wines, here the nose is decidedly restrained, offering up only grudging notes of pain grillé that frame pure aromas of white flower and fresh pear with subtle spice notes that continue onto the balanced, long and gorgeously refined big-bodied flavors that exude a distinct stoniness while building towards a powerful, mouth coating and palate staining finish that delivers striking persistence. A distinguished effort that will age for years because of the excellent underlying material and impeccable balance."
