Less than half a hectare, old vines, and a very famous brother-in-law.
If Klaus Peter Keller placed Morstein on the world stage, then his brother-in-law, Florian Fauth at Weingut Seehof, has given us another treatise in the simply awesome potential of this vineyard. Fauth has shown that the vineyard can turn out singular and rivetingly chiseled Pinot Blanc.
In the six years since we offered a small parcel of the first vintage of this bottling (2012), this has become something of a cult offering. Those who know, know, and the small amounts we are able to secure disappear quickly.
Florian's old-vine parcel on the solid limestone that makes up this vineyard is tiny; he produces in top vintages only around 100 cases, total.
Today we are offering what we could secure. For this truly extraordinary vintage, we included special four-pack pricing as low as $36.95.
It is hardly controversial to suggest that this is Fauth's grandest Weissburgunder Morstein "R" - the vintage has given the wine everything in perfect balance, yet amplified. As we wrote in our 2012 offer: "If Weissburgunder is misunderstood, the grandest expressions offer the most soaring, bright and floral aromatics of any wine on earth."
In 2019 there is an unparalleled depth and clarity to this wine. You get a blazing limestone minerality that's given additional radiance by crystalline notes of fresh spring flowers.
When you combine the 2019 with old vines and one of Germany's greatest vineyards, the results are show-stopping. As we said earlier, there's very little of this to go around. Don't miss your shot. Our parcel should arrive in April.
