As the Mosel Fine Wines quote above makes clear, Schaefer's 2019s are special.
Schaefer's 2019s seem destined to join the best vintages that this great estate produced over the past few decades.
Christoph Schaefer compares the 2019s to their 2001s and incredible 2012s. This is a grandly sculpted vintage of the wine with amazing drive, length, and balance. The harmony and tension is profound.
Today, we turn our attention to Schaefer's Spätlese #10. This is a particularly intense version of the wine. Typically, it is the most subtle and mineral counterpart to the Spätlese #5. In 2019, the #10 is bold with layered complexity. With this said, the wine still maintains an incredible poise, focus, and intricate delicacy that are the hallmarks of this bottling.
Schaefer is one of our favorite producers anywhere. We love the way that the wines age, how consistent they are, and their sheer precision and honesty. It's really exciting to see them nail a vintage the way that they did in 2019. We should warn you, though, this is a short vintage with a lot of excitement behind it. Schaefer's 2019 will disappear from the market quickly.

Mosel Fine Wine: "The 2019er Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese AP 10 was harvested mainly in the Fergert sector of the vineyard, and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar. It offers a most beautiful nose of vineyard peach, spices, almond cream, smoke, anise, and herbs. The wine is magnificently creamy, delicate, and smooth on the intense palate and leaves some subtle and fresh notes of candied zesty fruits in the long and lingering finish. This fruity-styled wine develops some Auslese presence in the after-taste, certainly for the Estate’s standards, but, as such, it is a superb fruity-styled wine in the making."
