Northern Piedmont Benchmark:
2016 & 2017 Colombera & Garella Bramaterra

Posted by Joe Salamone

High up in the Alto Piedmont, no one does purity and refinement as well as Colombera & Garella.

Ever since their first vintage in 2010, Colombera & Garella has been a benchmark for the area.

Today, we're happy to offer Colombera & Garella's 2016 and 2017 Bramaterra for $43.95 per bottle and $39.95 in mixed 6-packs.

In the context of the northern Piedmont, Bramaterra is on the light and elegant side of the spectrum. It does not have the muscle or power of Ghemme and Gattinara. Compared to Colombera & Garella's Lessona, which we've offered many times in the past, it shares a similar refinement and brightness but possesses a more earthbound, tense, and chalky minerality.

The 2016 Bramataterra has beautiful density, purity, and crystal clear aromatics. In the 2017, you find a sleek and precise profile with explosive aromatic complexity. Both vintages offer an amount of gracefulness and snap that's really compelling.

Garella is the former winemaker at Tenute Sella, Lessona's historic producer, and knows the region inside and out. His good friend Giacomo Colombera comes from a winemaking family that’s been in the region since the 1990s. With the help of Giacomo’s family, they work in Bramaterra, Coste della Sesia, and Lessona.

I'll close with a warning. Anytime that we offer Colombera & Garella's wines, they sell out quickly. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
