As the summer drags into its real lazy days, I wanted to put together a list to perk everyone up.
I had a lot of fun with this. This represents some of the finest and rarest that the northern Rhône has to offer.
There is a plethora of back vintage offerings from almost all of the classic Rhône stalwarts. Jamet Cote Brune is one of the great monuments of Syrah, and both the 2004 and 2010 are epic editions.
I'm also exceedingly fond of the jewel box Cornas of Robert Michel and his final two vintages are stunning.
Guillaume Gilles and Franck Balthazar are certainly both carrying on the legacy of masters like Michel and Verset and the wines they are producing at present are special.
The true rarities represented are wines we don't often get to offer. In addition to Benetieres' micro production Cote Rotie Le Dolium, there is a jeroboam of Allemand and bottles of his painfully difficult to find sans soufre bottling.
There's a lot to like here. Have fun.
