Along with Pierre Gonon, Chave produces our favorite expression of St. Joseph.
Few producers are able to render Syrah with as much depth, detail, and sophistication.

The Chave family has deep roots in St. Joseph, dating back to 1481. Jean-Louis has been a major proponent of St. Joseph’s potential, buying choice parcels and painstakingly rebuilding terraces there since the 1990s. Today, the Chave family home is in Mauves, in the beating heart of St. Joseph.
We've been amazed at how well Chave's St. Joseph ages. A 1995 opened with over a decade of age blew us away, and we've been seeking out back-vintage Chave ever since. Today, we're happy to offer a 2015 and 2016 Chave in magnum.
The 2015 is a pristine and seamlessly elegant version of Chave's St. Joseph. When you taste it, every component seems to be in place. There's incredible poise, concentration, and length.
Chave's 2016 St. Joseph is, unsurprisingly, a stunner. There's a soaring power, but also a regal elegance. The spiced red fruits are complemented by a mineral spine and deep savory notes of olives, herbs and smoke.
It's rare that I get to offer Chave's St. Joseph with some age and in magnum. I should warn you that this is a modest parcel. I suggest that you get your order in early.
