"An absolutely classic example
of Clos de Bèze!" -John Gilman
2011 Bouchard
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
"The aspect that is really remarkable here though is just the sheer depth, which when coupled with the superb length make for one exciting wine." -Burghound
Bouchard’s Clos de Bèze is a benchmark for the famous site. If there were any doubt about this, Bouchard's 2011 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is a potent reminder that this is one of the great examples of one of the best Grand Crus.
Burghound hammers this home: he places Bouchard's Bèze on the same plane as Rousseau, the producer who casts the biggest shadow in Bèze. Rousseau's Bèze goes for $1,200-1,500, if you can find it.
I have to pause a moment on the pricing: it's very impressive in the context of both Bouchard Bèze and Grand Crus.
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is one of the grandest and most famous of Grand Crus. At its best, it is simply epic. Few wines combine the rare combination of palate saturating, soil inflected intensity with walk-on-tip-toe elegance. It can be a mindbending, life-affirming wine.
As Burghound's note above makes clear, Bouchard nailed it with their Bèze in 2011.
2011 is a really attractive, beautiful vintage, but Bouchard's '11s have a sense of gravitas that few producers achieved. There's the bright, precise red fruits with the gorgeously fine tannins of the vintage. However, Bouchard's 2011s have an extra dimension; they have a complexity that really stands out.
Since Henriot’s takeover and the placement of Philippe Prost as winemaker, this house has, without a doubt, established itself once again as one of the premier domaines in the Côte d’Or. Bouchard has especially been on a winning streak since the 2005 vintage. In 2011, this level of attention and skill becomes very clear.
Our parcel is pretty small and this offer is only going out to people who've supported the Burgundy program. It's very likely that it will sell out. Word seems to have spread about Bouchard's incredible success in 2011.
We couldn't help but offer Bouchard's '11 Bèze: it's just too impressive of a wine and offers too much relative value not to share.
