The first vintage of cuvée Marcel Lapierre was just over a decade ago, and it wowed Beaujolais fans from the start.
Lapierre's Morgon is one of Beaujolais' most beloved wines. The cuvée Marcel takes their work to a much different level of depth and seriousness. I was very happy to land a second parcel of the 2019 recently.
Relying on hundred-year-old vines with a large portion coming from the Côte du Py, cuvée Marcel Lapierre represents a major step up. It offers up impressive power, complexity, and length.
Thankfully, the lift and irresistible silkiness that makes the basic Morgon so delectable are very present in this bottling.
The 2019 Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is a very concentrated and intense version of the wine. Amazingly it maintains a lovely sense of delicacy and lift. You get plenty of bright fruits, soaring spices, and a lovely mineral undercurrent. When you add the velvety texture, you get a very compelling and elevated expression of Beaujolais.
The combination of frost, hail, and high temperatures in 2019 reduced yields greatly. Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is always limited and never sticks around for long, but the 2019 is even more limited than usual. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
