"One of Italy’s most iconic producers"
2017 Valentini Trebbiano D'Abruzzo

Posted by Joe Salamone

It's not Trebbiano, it's Valentini's Trebbiano.

In Valentini's hands, the all-too-often innocuous Trebbiano grape becomes ridiculously complex, age-worthy, and just unforgettable.

Valentini's Trebbiano is luxuriously textured and powerfully complicated. When you catch his Trebbiano 'in the zone,' it steals attention away from the world's best wines. This Trebbiano is one of the great and utterly special wines of the world.

His Trebbiano delivers a fascinating, salty Adriatic minerality, along with honeyed and floral notes and a subtle earthiness that speaks of the dry, sun-scorched land.

The 2017 is wildly complex. There's everything from stone fruits, to more exotic fruit notes, to baked hay, buoyant tangerine and lemon notes, and a broad spectrum of herbs. It has a steely core and a tension-filled chalky impression to complement the saturating intensity.

What is known about Valentini's methods all points to traditional winemaking and a maniacal commitment to quality. The vines are trained in the traditional pergola method and yields are aggressively restricted. The wine is fermented and aged in large Slavonian oak barrels, the youngest of which is 70-years-old; no barriques or stainless steel tanks are used. When the grapes aren't of a quality deemed appropriate, they are sold to the co-op.

Valentini's Trebbiano is a cult wine that creates its own category. It's one of the wines that brims with soulfulness and mystery. There's no other wine quite like it. We're very happy to offer it.
