Whenever we taste Valentini's Montepulciano, we're in awe of the wine.
For us, Valentini's Montepulciano is one of Italy's great wines.
It's also one of the most elusive. Valentini only makes the Montepulciano in special vintages (the last one was 2006). And when he releases it, the quantities are tiny.
Valentini has the magic touch with Montepulciano. Most Montepulciano is nondescript bulk wine, but in Valentini's hands, Montepulciano becomes profound.
Compared with Pepe, Valentini is more powerful, denser and has more grip. Valentini's Montepulciano has an incredibly wild complexity and depth. There's also beautiful purity and delineation. All of this adds up to it aging amazingly well.
The complexity covers a dizzying spectrum. There's dark fruits, smoke, baked herbs, pine resin, exotic spices and high-toned floral notes. It delivers this with an extraordinary sense of polish and sophistication.
Landing even a small parcel of Valentini feels like a major score. Our advice is to jump on this. Valentini's Montepulciano always disappears quickly. Plus the rarity makes pricing increase dramatically a couple of years after release, and continue to do so.
