Jean-Marie Guffens is making some of the most exciting and singular white Burgundies around. Still, the wines cruise under the radar.

Over the past couple of years, I've recommended Guffens-Heynen to Burgundy fanatics, and each time they find the wines revelatory.
For over two decades, I've been following Guffens' wines. The wines of Guffens-Heynen have simply never been better.
For many, the wines of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy are second-tier. However, in Guffens' hands, the region can compete on the world stage. The wines of Mâconnais are often associated with a certain heaviness. The wines of Guffens-Heynen shock you with their electricity and fineness.
We love the "Tri de Chavigne" in any vintage, but as William Kelley's note above makes clear, the 2023 is a special edition of this wine.
The 2023 is utterly pristine with a finely woven electric core of chalk. For all of its detail and precision, it is a bold wine boasting staining intensity and multidimensional complexity. Most importantly, not one single element seems out of place.
I really like how William Kelley sums up the wines: "Guffens produces some of the most exciting wines in all of Burgundy; whites which unite tension, texture and amplitude in rare harmony." The 2023 Mâcon-Pierreclos "Tri de Chavigne" is an archetypal example of this.

Burghound: "The 2023 Mâcon-Pierreclos Tris de Chavigne is one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I've ever tasted from Jean-Marie Guffens. It's among the most expressive, too, at least at this early stage, bursting from the glass with aromas of peach and pear mingled with white flowers, beeswax, toasted almonds and honey. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it's rich but chiseled, with a bright spine of acidity, chalky structuring extract and a long, searingly mineral finish."
