One of Germany's Top Spätlesen
2013 Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck Spätlese GK
"Tim Fröhlich has once again produced one of the most magical lineups of wines in Germany in 2013." -John Gilman
Tim Fröhlich has proven himself to be one of Germany's top winemakers. The wines are extreme. When you taste Fröhlich's wines in a line-up, they never fail to stand out.
You're left with the impression that not a single opportunity has been missed to sharpen the edges or to bring every detail into clear focus.
The Spätlese Gold Capsule is one of the pinnacles of Fröhlich's winemaking style. Year after year, it's one of Germany's top Spätlesen. It reaches this status not simply by being more complex and enveloping, but also by how refined and how ethereal it is. What separates it from the basic Spätlese bottling is not only intensity, but also elegance and clarity.
The Spätlese GK is always one of our most popular offerings from Schäfer-Fröhlich. The 2013 Spätlese GK is a really attractive example of what this bottling brings to the table. The way that the wine's intensity marries with 2013's cool ripe zip makes the vintage one of my favorite editions of this wine.
The Nahe was the star of the 2013 vintage, having largely been spared from the difficult weather that many other regions in Germany endured. Schäfer-Fröhlich's top wines thrived in the vintage conditions. As a whole, they offer a beautiful clarity, intense cut and a deep, layered complexity.
The 2013 Spätlese GK delivers a pristine punch and length. The mid-palate boasts a kaleidoscopic presentation of slate, flowers, tangerine and red fruits.
This is a glorious expression of what makes the Nahe so special. There's a saturating presence and an incisiveness that makes it thrilling and complex drinking.
