"The 2019 Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti is one of the most profoundly riveting, beautiful wines I have ever tasted here. " -Antonio Galloni
For months, we've been beating the drum for Roagna's extraordinary 2019s. We saved the best for last.
As Galloni's note above hints, the 2019 Pira Vecchie Viti is simply a jaw-dropping wine. When the dust settles, it will certainly be among the vintage's highlights.

Roagna's Pira is always one of the most finessed and lifted of their collection. The Roagna family purchased the monopole site in 1989. It is endowed with vines going back to 1937 and has a fascinating soil composition of iron-rich limestone and blue and grey marls.
The Vecchie Viti comes from Roagna's oldest vines, including ungrafted ones and vines that were planted in 1937. It offers an incredible amount of nuance and depth.
The 2019 Pira VV is simply kaleidoscopic in its complexity, delivering ultra-clear red fruits, beguiling aromatics, spices, herbs, and floral notes. It's amazing how the wine combines intensity with delicacy and a luminous quality.
Roagna is one of my favorite Piedmont producers. Still, by any measure, this wine is a tour de force.
