"This is a seriously impressive effort and one of the stars of the vintage. Don't miss it!" -Burghound

Carillon's BBM is one of the greatest wines of Burgundy. There's no way around this fact.

If you've haven't had the opportunity to try Carillon's BBM, there's a simple explanation: It's also one of the absolute rarest white Burgundies. It's sourced from a tiny .11ha parcel of low yielding old vines.

When you search for any vintage of Carillon's BBM in the U.S., you come up with a total of nine listings.

You can see where this is going. We'll keep it brief. We scored what feels like a huge parcel, which in reality totals a couple cases. Needless to say, these are the only bottles of 05 in the country.

Carillon's wines are magical white Burgundies. In the cellars of the top collectors, Carillon is stashed right alongside Leflaive, Coche, Lafon, and Ramonet. And his BBM is the jewel in the crown.

For savvy Burg collectors, Carillon's BBM is a "Holy Grail" wine.

What makes Carillon's wines so incredibly captivating is the way it combines regal grandeur with an almost fanatical rigor. They are just brilliantly balanced, combining luscious yellow fruits with crushed rocks and zing-y citrus flavors. The scale and complexity is just epic and yet, the proportions are so finely calibrated.

As the Burghound quote above makes clear, Carillon's 2005 BBM is one of the absolute greats of the vintage. While it's always been a very important White Burgundy vintage, some bottle age has really elevated the 2005s. Today, they're showing even more chiseled, even more focused than when the Burghound reviewed Carillon's 2005 BBM in 2008.

For lovers of great White Burgundy, for people interested in the world's great wines, this is indeed a "don't miss."
