"One of the under the radar gems of the vintage" - 2018 Oddero Barolo

Posted by Ian McFadden

For the past handful of vintages, Oddero has been in the zone.

They've been turning out classically styled Barolos of incredible purity and detail.

When it comes to value in Barolo, Oddero's normale is our go-to. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bottle from anywhere in the world that provides as much complexity, ageability, and overall breeding for the price tag.

The 2018 Barolo takes value to another level. Oddero decided to blend all of their single vineyards besides Brunate and Rionda. In this vintage, Fiasco, Bricco Chiesa, Capalot, Bussia, Villero, Rocche di Castiglione, and Monvigliero are all included in the blend.

Oddero turned out some of the most impressive Barolos of the vintage. Antonio Galloni sums up their success by stating succinctly: "Mariacristina and Isabella Oddero nailed the 2018 vintage."

The 2018 has a brilliant clarity of expression with a weightless texture and incredible length. It possesses a class far beyond what its humble price tag might suggest. You have the total package of serious structure, well-integrated tannins, and complex aromatics.

Simply put, the wine is profoundly successful. We completely agree with Antonio Galloni when he writes: "It is a very strong 'buy' in my book."

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2018 Barolo is terrific. In 2018, the Odderos were not completely convinced of the results across all their sites. Ultimately, they blended all of their vineyard designates into the straight Barolo, with the exception of the Brunate and a Riserva from Vigna Rionda. In the glass, their 2018 is captivating. Exotic aromatics, bright red berry fruit and vibrant acids give the 2018 its considerable allure. Vineyard sites are: Fiasco, Bricco Chiesa, Capalot, Bussia, Villero, Rocche di Castiglione and Monvigliero. Look for this to be one of the under the radar gems of the vintage. I loved it. In fact, the Oddero Barolo is one of the few 2018s readers should not miss. It is a very strong 'buy' in my book."
