Magical 2010 Barolo
2010 Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice

"2010 Bricco Pernice is one of the very best wines I have tasted since I started visiting the property many years ago." -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Cogno simply killed it in 2010. And Bricco Pernice is at the very top.

Honestly, Cogno had fallen off my radar until one of my Piedmont-obsessed clients started asking about the Bricco Pernice. I'm very happy he did. The wine is too impressive not to have a moment in the spotlight.

At this point, 2010 Barolo doesn't need much of an introduction. When you taste the 2010s, it becomes immediately clear that it's an important vintage. There's such a purity of expression, elegance and overall harmony. Even as someone with so much experience in Piedmont, Galloni comes right out and calls the vintage "the greatest young Barolo vintage I have tasted."

The Cogno family has been making wine in Piedmont for four generations on Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe. Their Bricco Pernice comes from the limestone and calcerous soil at the top of the hill, from vines that are up to 65 years old.

The 2010 Bricco Pernice is impactful while simultaneously being crystal clear and supremely finessed. When I talk about 2010 Barolos being complete, this dramatizes that quality. The total package is beautiful.

This is a wine that really pops - the aromatics are insanely complex and nuanced. They offer up a seemingly endless procession of spice, citrus peel, florals, earth, minerals and herbs. For all of its intensity, Bricco Pernice remains amazingly silky and agile.

The 2010 Barolos disappeared very quickly from the market. This is a late release and represents one of the last opportunities to pick up a top wine from a great vintage. Don't miss.
