Old-School Piedmont, Sharply Priced
2007 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo
"It is without question one of the wines of the vintage."
- Antonio Galloni
Today, we present a small parcel of this old-school Piedmont at an ultra-compelling price and urge those who love great Barolo to reply to this email quickly.
Bartolo Mascarello was one of the legendary old school producers of Barolo. His daughter Maria Teresa, who has been at the helm since her father's passing, remains just as ardent an advocate of all things traditional. There's no denying that the wines she has made at the estate are devastatingly pure and beautiful.
We're happy to offer the exceptional and soulful 2007 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo for $114.95 per bottle.
The 2007 vintage in Piedmont is one that has played especially well into the traditional style of old-school producers like Bartolo Mascarello or Brovia.
There’s a warmth and sweetness to the 07s’ fruit, a ripeness and lovely integration of the Nebbiolo grape’s massive tannins, that offers the perfect counterpoint to the structured and savory style of the old guard. This bottling boasts plenty of power and some flesh, but delivers these with an architecture and complexity few producers managed to pull off in 2007. Galloni recognizes the feat naming it "one of the wines of the vintage."
Mascarello's production is exceedingly small so it's no surprise that quantities here are very limited. This is a tiny parcel of extremely well-priced Barolo and it will not last.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2007 Barolo has grown tremendously over the last few months. Some bottles have been more closed than others, but what is certain is that the wine is putting on weight. The 2007 appears to have a long drinking window ahead. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage."
