"One of the wines of the vintage, hands down" -Antonio Galloni
2010 Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne
I'm going to tread lightly here, because I'm willing to bet that this will disappear quickly.
Galloni's quote above concisely sums up many people's feelings - Sandrone really killed it in 2010 and Le Vigne is the star.
The short story with Sandrone's wildly successful 2010s is that they achieved a near miraculous textural depth married to poise and detail. In recent years, we've been watching Sandrone's Barolos grow increasingly refined and pure without sacrificing any of the complex textural elements that is their signature. The 2010 vintage marks an absolute high point.
The outrageous quality of the 2010 Barolos has been widely covered. If you've tasted some of the wines already, it's obvious that something special happened. This is especially the case at Sandrone. The purity and finesse of the vintage feels very much amplified at Sandrone.
In his sterling review, Galloni calls the 2010 Le Vigne "an epic achievement from the Sandrone family." The combination of lavish textural complexity with such nuance and exacting precision is simply stunning.
