Vigna Rionda is one of Barolo's great sites.
Rionda is a well-exposed, limestone-rich vineyard that has the potential to deliver some of the greatest Barolos around.
Even with our incredibly high expectations of the vineyard, Oddero's 2013 Rionda blew us away. I first tasted the wine at the estate in 2019, and each time that I've tasted the wine it has amazed.
I couldn't resist picking up another parcel of the wine. This is a wine where the greatness of the site, vintage, and producer came together to create something extraordinary. It serves as the perfect follow-up to our 2013 Roagna Pajè from last week.
For Piedmont, the 2013 vintage is simply stunning. The wines have a radiant clarity and a punchy dynamic energy that is thrilling.
In 2013, and in Oddero's hands, the class and refinement of Rionda shines through brilliantly. Their 2013 Rionda is remarkably precise and elegant. The wine explodes with aromatic complexity, beautifully integrated silky tannins, and loads of grace and nuance.
Many Barolo fanatics would place Oddero in the same realm as the region's greats. We wholeheartedly concur with Antonio Galloni when he writes: "Readers who enjoy fine, classically built wines will want to check out Oddero." The 2013 Vigna Rionda shows the estate at the top of their game.
