We've been eagerly waiting for our allocation of the 2021 Montestefano. The 2021 Piedmont wines are dazzling. We love their classical structures, elegance, and sparkling clarity. The style of the vintage played very well with the signature of Serafino Rivella. They are old school wines, and they thrived in 2021.
The heart and soul of the estate is a top Barbaresco vineyard situated directly adjacent to the family’s home: the Montestefano Cru. Montestefano is famous above all else for how it marries elegance, detail, and intensity. It's a wine that soars with a tightly coiled class. Antonio Galloni writes, "Tasting Teobaldo and Maria Rivella's wines is like stepping back into Piedmont's past."
The 2021 strikes an incredible combination of honesty and refinement. The high-toned balance that this wine hits is really impressive. For all of its old-fashioned honesty, it comes off as silky and sophisticated.
In a typical vintage, Serafino Rivella produces around 750 cases of Montestefano. For many years, these quantities kept the wines within a small group of insiders. Our first offer of Serafino Rivella was the 2013 vintage, and we've enjoyed watching the wines begin to get on people's radars.
