"Possibly the finest ever"
- 2017 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich & Domprobst Kabinett

This is an offer that I approach with a healthy amount of trepidation.

Schaefer's 2017s are amazing and in painfully short supply. The small, beloved estate was down by 50%.

Last month, our offering for the 2017 Domprobst Spätlese #5 saw an enormous response. I don't expect this Kabinett offering to be any different.

In any vintage, Schaefer's Kabinett wines thrive on an unparalleled fineness. In 2017, their level of refinement is startling.

Schaefer's Himmelreich produces Kabinetts with the most cut and salty minerality of his sites. There's something especially gripping about the agility, punch and mineral tension of a Himmelreich Kabinett. The 2017 is absolutely stunning. Mosel Fine Wines sums it up well when they write: "This is a brilliant Kabinett in the making."

The Domprobst Kabinett is more yellow fruited and layered. The 2017 has serious cut and a lifted, finessed delicacy, which offers the perfect counterpoint to its complex, spice-inflected profile. There's an incredible persistence and precision to the wine and the lithe frame is packed with lots of nuanced complexity.

We've had bottles of Schaefer Kabinett with 15 or 20 years of age that have been gorgeous. The 2017 Kabinetts seem bullet-proof in their aging capacity and are destined to be included among the best from this great domaine.
