Beaucastel is a name that looms large for those obsessed with the Southern Rhône. Few, if any, producers in the region possess such a storied and long tradition of excellence.
And perhaps NO bottle from the Southern Rhône has the legacy of greatness comparable to Beaucastel's top bottling, the Hommage á Jacques Perrin. The Hommage is produced only in top vintages; the quantities produced rarely exceed a mere 500 cases.
Parker wrote of the 1989 Hommage, "it is unquestionably one of the greatest red wines I have ever tasted." The 1990 followed up on the perfection of the 1989. The 1998 and 2007 built on this tradition and the reputations of these bottles only grow, to say nothing of the prices - the 1990 at this point hovers around, and breaks, the $1,000 barrier.

The 2009 Hommage is poised to take its place among the great Hommages ever produced: The vintage created wines that marry impressive concentration (think 1990, 2007) with a perfect seamlessness, an uncanny integration of massive fruit with soaring herbal/floral details.
The 2009 Hommage presents an almost shockingly savory combination of Provencal herbs, roasted meats and smoke. Yet, its fruit character is luscious and vividly pure. It's a wine that's packed with intensity and a fortress-like structure, but somehow it feels nimble and not weighed down by its concentration.
This is a wine of unending complexity. It is also a true "vin de garde" and the 2009 will have a life span of many decades - Parker gives the wine a drinking window up to 40 years from the vintage.

This loaded, multidimensional, massively concentrated 2009 is much softer than most Hommages. It should be drinkable in 3-4 years and keep for 30-40 years thereafter. Kudos to one of the world’s great winemaking families!"
