Power and Effortless Refinement:
2006 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill

Posted by Ian McFadden

Pol Roger's Winston Churchill is famous for its bold, aristocratic swagger.

Pol Roger's Sir Winston Churchill has earned a very elite place in the world of tête de cuvée Champagnes.

It's very likely that no other champagne marries power and class so seamlessly. Catch a Winston Churchill with a good amount of age on it and you'll be amazed.

Pol Roger's first vintage of Winston Churchill was the 1975. England was always an important market for Pol Roger, and Winston Churchill was one of its biggest fans, famously naming his racehorse Pol Roger. When Churchill finally met Odette Pol Roger in 1944, they became instant friends. The style of Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is modeled after Churchill's favorite vintages of Pol Roger, which were regal and had a penetrating presence.

The intensity of Winston Churchill is only part of the equation. What catapults the wine into Champagne's top echelons is the gracefulness and transparency with which it carries its weight. It's one of the most extraordinary experiences in Champagne.

The 2006 really flaunts the class and brash complexity of Winston Churchill. It takes the wine's classic red fruit profile and adds a fascinating undercurrent of earthy minerality. Behind the rich Pinot fruit is a vibrant acid streak and intricate architecture.

Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is one of the grand wines of Champagne. The 2006 underscores the multitude of reasons why this is. This is a gorgeous multifaceted Champagne that promises to age really well. I created very sharp 3-pack pricing to encourage you to stock up.
