Achleiten is one of Austria's "Grand Crus," and Prager's Toni Bodenstein is the master of the site.
Today, we're very happy to pay homage to Prager's work in Achleiten with his stunning 2016s.
Achleiten is prized for its mineral intensity and delineated length. If you're looking for a Wachau site that screams terroir, it's Achleiten - especially Prager’s version where the site assumes a staining, pure and detailed mineral presence.
Prager's signature of precision, finesse and mineral cut place the wines among the best in all of Austria. Prager's Achleiten is the place to witness this signature in full effect.
The 2016 Riesling Achleiten highlights the vintage's appealing cool tones. It's tension-filled with classy polish and precision and an abundance of Achleiten's punchy minerality.
Stockkultur is sourced from a tiny .3-hectare plot with a small cluster of nearly 80-year-old vines, at a higher elevation within the Achleiten vineyard." Stockkultur" refers to the way the vines are trained, a single vine with four shoots. This is the traditional way vines were cultivated before the 1950s and it results in extreme vineyard densities - 15,000 vines per hectare.
Prager's Stockkultur is one of the most detailed and finest Grüners on the planet. In 2016, Stockkultur is incredibly radiant and refined. It's animated by currents of ripe citrus and pungent stony minerality which is perfectly complemented by floral and spice-accented top notes.
This is a really exciting vintage for Prager. The estate's hallmarks of grace, clarity and balance are on very compelling display. We expect these to age beautifully.
