Prevost Beguines Extra Brut NV (2013)

The rise of Jérôme Prévost is an unlikely story.

At age 21, he inherited his grandmother's 2.2 hectares of old-vine Pinot Meunier in Gueux, an obscure area in the northwest of Montagne de Reims. For over 10 years he simply sold off the grapes.

In 1998, his friend Anselme Selosse convinced him to start making his own wines. Since then, Prevost has blown up. The wines have become nearly impossible to find in quantity.

When you taste Prevost, an immediate obsession seems to develop. The wines are that fascinating and compelling.

Last week, a bunch of the Crush staff kicked off a dinner with Prevost's 2013 Beguines. The bottle blew the whole table away.

In Prevost's Gueux, you find unique soils. Champagne's famous chalk soils are buried deep under a mix of sand and calcareous clay, laden with sea fossils. Something really special happens to Meunier here.

Prevost's 2013 Beguines possesses an extraordinary saline and earthy minerality. It has a lovely fineness and detail. The 2013 vintage in the northern section of Montagne de Reims has the reputation of producing coolly mineral wines. The Beguines is emphatically mineral. It delivers a dazzling length with depth and cut.

Prevost's cult status is well deserved. They are some of the most singular Champagnes around. With each passing year, the quantities available get pinched even more. We worked hard to get this parcel together, but in the end it's pretty modest. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
