2010 Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne
"The 2010 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is pure perfection in a glass." -Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate
Guigal's trio of La La's have long stood at the pinnacle of what the Northern Rhône can achieve. Needless to say, their 2010s are monumental.
The 2010 La Landonne is insanely good. Even when you stack this bottle next to other great vintages, the 2010 stands out. It's a very important edition of this wine. Jeb Dunnuck's sterling review makes this clear.
The La La's style is one of epic scale. They deliver a layered complexity, outrageous intensity and an aging curve that rivals anything coming out of the Northern Rhône.
La Landonne has been a personal favorite for many years. I love how its unhinged power marries with a fineness and nuanced complexity of earth, spice and dark fruits.
La Landonne is one of Côte-Rôtie's greatest sites. Still, there's no doubt that Guigal takes the site to an absolutely mind-blowing level.
La Landonne is in the Côte Brune. Compared with the silkier, more red-fruited La Mouline or the less tannic and round La Turque, La Landonne tends toward a darker, more brooding nature.
2010 is one of our favorite vintages for the Northern Rhône. The wines have a startling clarity, plenty of concentration and intense drive and length. The vintage really accentuates La Landonne's finesse and soil tones. There's plenty of punch and grip, but the precision and clear impression of pulverized rock announce the wine's blatant minerality.
For many people, the 2010 La Landonne has become one of those rock star bottles. I've been watching availability get more and more difficult with each passing week. This is a small parcel. My best guess is that when it's gone, that's it.
