Radically Overdelivering
2013 Lienhardt Côte de Nuits Les Essards
Antoine Lienhardt works in an obscure corner of Burgundy and he pulls out all the stops.
It's evident everywhere except the price tag.
The Les Essards is a dead serious bottle and one of the best Burgundy values we've come across. We can't think of another Red Burg that delivers anything as ageworthy and complex for the price point.
Antoine Lienhardt is unabashed in his claims that his terroir in Comblanchien is worthy of 1er Cru status. In Comblanchien, vines sit on a very thin layer of topsoil over limestone. He's quick to mention that he works the same way he would for a Grand Cru.
The 2013 Essards is tensile, tightly wound and fiercely mineral. There's really impressive length. The Essards offers an earthy, dark berry and slightly wild profile. It's easy to imagine it aging for a couple of decades.
I'm always excited to find cellarable Red Burgundy at this price point. It may very well be without peer in this regard. We created special 4-pack pricing because this is a bottle that you'll want to track over the years to come. The potential here is great.
