Recently, when some friends stopped by, we opened the 2015 Hors Série. It blew us all away.
For quite some time, Chartogne-Taillet has been among the most exciting addresses in Champagne.
Alexandre Chartogne returned to his family's domaine after working with visionary and cult Champagne producer Anselme Selosse. Since his return, the wines have been elevated to another elite level. He's one of the most thoughtful and ambitious growers we know. It shows in the wines.
Chartogne-Taillet's lineup reaches its pinnacle in the exactingly rendered single-vineyard bottlings. They highlight just how sensitive the winemaking is.
The 2015 marks the debut of Hors Série. It is an all Chardonnay cuvée sourced from ungrafted vines in Avize and Merfy. This is a powerful and layered blanc de blancs that boasts a punchy core of acidity and minerality. There's a complex presentation of stone fruits that ranges from apricot to baked apple that's rendered more complex by subtle herbal and spice notes. There's a seamless harmony and elegance that's really impressive.
Before wrapping up, I should mention that the 2015 is limited and rare. There are only two other listings in the country. We expect a quick sell out. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
