Rare Brilliance
2004 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill
Pol Roger's Winston Churchill is famous for its boldness and power. It found its perfect marriage in 2004.
At its best 2004 produced gorgeously finessed, bright and energetic wines. When you combine this with Winston Churchill's richness, something really magical happened.
Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is always a bold, toasty and powerful Pinot-dominated Champagne. However, what catapults the wine into Champagne's best is the way this power is effortlessly integrated into a refined and harmonious whole.
This refinement is accentuated beautifully in 2004. We really like Peter Liem's comment comparing 2004 to 2002: "The 2002 Winston Churchill was rightly hailed as a classic, but that shouldn’t take anything away from the outstanding 2004, which is no less of a wine."
The best wines of 2004 are classics and utterly compelling in their sleek, mineral-drenched elegance. Sir Winston Churchill is definitely among this group. One easy comparison is to the 1975 vintage, which was the first year that Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was produced.
We love the 2004 for its vigor and freshness that dovetails beautifully with its subtly complex and enveloping Pinot fruit. It's long and intense, yet brilliantly clear and beautifully defined.
The 2004 is an amazing example of how multifaceted Sir Winston Churchill can be. Sure, you can find a more powerful and attention-grabbing vintage, but you'll be hard pressed to find a vintage of Sir Winston Churchill that's as dynamic and exciting to drink.
