Rare Chave: 2010 Chave Saint-Joseph

Posted by Ian McFadden

It's very rare that we can offer back-vintages of Chave's Saint-Joseph.

It's unfortunate because we've had great experiences with bottles of Chave's Saint-Joseph after decades of age.

Just to underscore the rarity, I should mention that there's only a single bottle of this wine available anyplace else in the U.S.

For the northern Rhône, the 2010 vintage was a dream brew. The combination of concentration, clarity and elegance is jaw-dropping.

Chave's Saint-Joseph is built to age beautifully. The wine possesses incredible finesse, precision and depth of complexity.

The Chave family has deep roots in St-Joseph, dating all the way back to 1481. In his fascinating I’ll Drink to That! interview, Jean-Louis describes the domaine’s history in St-Joseph and his vision to restore his family’s holdings to their former glory.

Chave's St-Joseph is something that we go deep on every vintage. Few producers are able to render Syrah with as much depth, detail and sophistication. However, the 2010 is clearly special. I'm happy to have another opportunity to work with the wine and seriously doubt these bottles will stick around for very long.
