Rare Germany, Part Two:
2022 Wasenhaus Spätburgunder Kalk

Posted by Joe Salamone

When we first offered Wasenhaus in 2019, we had no idea how it would blow up.

Finding the wines has become nearly impossible.

When you taste the wines, it's easy to understand what the excitement is about. These are some of the greatest and most fascinating Pinot Noirs in Germany. They're beautifully precise, with intricate structures and amazing purity.

Wasenhaus' Alex Götze and Christoph Wolber worked in Burgundy prior to founding Wasenhaus. They worked at an impressive roster of estates (Comte Armand, Bernard van Berg, Leflaive, de Montille, and Pierre Morey). They brought this Burgundian expertise back to Germany's Baden region, focusing on old-vine parcels and old clonal selections.

The 2022 Spätburgunder Kalk comes from a blend of limestone sites. There's a gorgeous tension and elegance. We love its intensity and walk on tip-toe finesse.

I'm not going to drag this out. We're expecting a rapid sellout and needing to make allocations. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
