A few months ago, I picked up a small parcel of 2014 Lamy magnums, offered them out fairly quietly, and they mostly disappeared.
I recently had another opportunity to pick up a parcel of 2014 magnums and I jumped at the chance.
The 2014 vintage produced simply extraordinary white Burgundies. It's one of the best young white Burgundy vintages that I've tasted. There's an impression of completeness and elegance to the wines that's special.
Hubert Lamy is one of the standard-bearers for St. Aubin. For many people today, Lamy is one of the most exciting producers of white Burgundy around. Their 2014s are incredible and played an important role in establishing Lamy as one of Burgundy's top talents.
La Chatenière and En Remilly along with Murgers des Dents de Chien are considered St. Aubin's top sites. Chatenière is a steep, very well exposed climat that delivers an enveloping and powerful minerality with a driving tension. En Remilly is the go-to site for Burgundy lovers. It's a powerful and rigorous expression of Chardonnay with the sort of architecture that allows it to age beautifully.
Lamy's 2014 Chatenière is a wine of soaring complexity and incisive finesse. As you'd expect, Lamy's 2014 1er Cru En Remilly is also stunning. This is a painstakingly and grandly sculpted white Burgundy.
I'll close with a warning. Quantities are very limited. People love Lamy and the 2014 white Burgundy vintage. The fact that they're magnums only ups the ante.
