Rare, Well-Priced Coche
2011 Coche-Dury Meursault
This is one of the few Burgundies that simply transcend any notion of the traditional Burgundian hierarchy.
Coche-Dury is a master of Meursault. His basic Meursault is anything but. It very well may be the greatest village wine on earth. The only other contender would be Leroy's Vosne-Romanée Aux Genaivrières.
Coche is special. Tasting his villages Meursault makes this very, very clear. The 2011 Meursault has no trouble keeping pace with top 1er Crus and many Grand Crus.
Finding Coche is never easy. The wines often seem like ghosts. The 2011 Meursault is a case in point. There are only five other listings.
I feel lucky to have landed a parcel that's well-priced and large enough to offer the '11 Meursault at the lowest price around.
We're really enamored by the 2011 White Burgundies. They are beautifully elegant with a nice driving acidity and serious underlying structure.
Coche's 2011 Meursault takes all of this and endows it with Coche's singular depth and complexity. It's a walk on tip-toe powerhouse delivering layer upon layer with a weightless intensity. This is the genius of Coche.
To experience Coche firing on all eight cylinders is one of the great experiences in wine. They are some of the most beautifully sculpted and compelling wines around. You don't have to look any further than this 2011 Meursault to understand.
