Rarely Seen Ganevat
2012 Ganevat Chardonnay Grusse en Billat

Ganevat is notorious for producing a head-spinning array of different wines. In any given vintage, the number is hard to pin down, but it can be as many as 40-50.

Out of this broad range, the Chardonnay Grusse en Billat is one of the best.

The terroir here is clay with schist. Grusse en Billat represents Ganevat's most linear, most overtly mineral, and one of the most compelling of his Chardonnays.

We've been big fans of Ganevat's Grusse en Billat for a long time. I can remember tasting the wine for the first time in 2010 and how it immediately became a personal favorite. Despite our love for this bottling, this is the first time that we've been able to feature Grusse en Billat.

It's really difficult to find Grusse en Billat in quantity. There are only one or two other listings in the U.S.

Ganevat's 2012 whites are especially dense and layered. These qualities are complemented by a powerful thrust of acidity and a pristinely articulated expression of minerals, fruits, herbs and flowers.

The 2012 Grusse en Billat, unsurprisingly, is the most pointed of the range. The way it combines such depth of complexity with a zippy, tension-filled structure is really impressive. The zingy citrus notes and underlying salty minerality lends a beautifully dynamic element to the wine.

At this point, it's probably unnecessary to warn you that this is extremely limited. The ridiculously limited availability of Ganevat's wines is well known. Give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
