Rarities: 1964-1988 Ygrec d'Yquem

Posted by Ian McFadden

When it comes to Sauternes, when it comes to sweet wines, Yquem is the long-reigning standard bearer.

Today, we turn our attention to another side of Yqeum with rare old bottles of their incredible dry wine, Ygrec d'Yquem.

Ygrec is one of the great unsung wines of Bordeaux.

Today, we're able to celebrate the wine in a huge way with Ygrecs spanning three decades, from the 60s through the 80s. With the exception of the 1988, everything is ex-Chateau. We've never been able to do an offering like this before and it's doubtful that it will be repeated anytime soon.

With its unrivaled pedigree, Ygrec d’Yquem is a Bordeaux Blanc with a ton of class. It boasts the same nobility as Yquem, only in a dry format. It's made from the same grapes, the same terroir and with the same meticulous attention to quality that has made Yquem one of the most recognized names in the world of fine wine.

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, Ygrec d’Yquem is utterly unique, managing an unexpected brightness along with textural intensity and elegance.

These qualities help Ygrec age magnificently. The way that top White Bordeaux, like Haut Brion, Chevalier and Ygrec, ages is amazing. For the large part, this remains one of the great secrets of the wine world. With age, Ygrec is imposing and unmistakably aristocratic, boasting a majestically layered and waxy complexity. One of the things that always stands out with old Ygrec is its tension and finesse.

This is a not to be missed offer. I should warn you that I'm expecting things to sell out quickly. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
