We love everything from Chevillon, but the 1er Cru Vaucrains is one of the gems.
Vaucrains' 80-year-old vines produce powerful, incredibly deep, mineral and savage wines. Yet, for all of its intensity, Chevillon's is marked by a clarity and precision that only the best Burgundies achieve.
Chevillon's wines are a pillar of our Burgundy program. He is one of the most reliable producers in all of Burgundy. They are simply bulletproof. They are also some of the most honest, terroir-specific wines I know. Year after year, the Vaucrains is one of our favorites.
Vaucrains is one of the great vineyards of Nuits St. Georges, legendary for producing muscular wine that is chock full of dark fruits and earth. Chevillon's has been the benchmark for decades, and their Vaucrains is fortress-like and wildly complex.
Chevillon's Vaucrains is also defined by a radiant energy and lovely muscular texture. The 2014 is absolutely captivating in the way it delivers verve and density. For all of its bone-crushing, brooding structure, there's a beautiful transparency and subtle complexity.
The way Vaucrains ages is no joke - it can reach its 20th birthday without breaking a sweat. It's one of the few sub-$100 Red Burgundies that can age for a few decades. I've had so many old bottles of Vaucrains that have wowed me that I make sure to stash away a 6-pack every vintage. Happy to offer at today's sharp pricing.
