Boncie is producing some of our favorite expressions of Sangiovese.
Every time we open a bottle of their Le Trame bottling, we're blown away.
The Le Trame is a compelling, multifaceted, and personality-filled bottle. In short, Le Trame is the real deal and a bold example of how great Sangiovese from Chianti Classico can be.
Le Trame is a seriously complicated wine and evolves for hours in the glass, seeming to reveal another evocative wrinkle of complexity with each smell and taste. It's hard not to be taken by the harmony and sheer thrust and elegance of the wine.
It's this beautifully composed combination of intensity and finesse that defines the Le Trame. It's very easy to imagine Le Trame aging amazingly well for decades.
The 2019 Le Trame is a wine of saturating power and loads of class. The added punch and layers of dark fruits give you the impression of the ripe vintage. Still, you get plenty of the finesse that we just spoke of along with a luminous undercurrent of energy and high-toned floral notes. You get a really impressive presentation of honesty, complexity, and purity of terroir.
Boncie is located in San Felice in the southern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, not very far from the great Castell'in Villa. It's very clear that this is one of the great terroirs of the zone. Boncie's Giovanna Morganti was given a farm by her father, who was a famous enologist in the area, and she set to planting 3ha in high density with mostly Sangiovese along with tiny amounts of Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, and Mammolo. The vines are tended following biodynamic principles.
Le Trame's purity, individual personality, and overall architecture can't be denied. This is a don't miss.Â
