Boncie makes Sangiovese exactly as we like it.
The wines are structured, nuanced, and offer a beautiful combination of lift and depth.
We've been working with the wines for fifteen years and it's been exciting to watch them gather a strong following recently. The importance of Sangiovese has been rediscovered recently. Along with producers like Montevertine and Castell'in Villa, Boncie has been an essential producer for those seeking soulful and ageable Sangiovese.
We recently offered Boncie's Le Trame and it sold out quickly. Today, we're excited to round out their lineup with the 2019 Cinque and the first vintage of Chiesamonti.
The Cinque utilizes younger vines and is intended to be a less imposingly structured wine than Le Trame. While offering up plenty of class and complexity, Le Trame hits an irresistible level of deliciousness. We recommend Cinque often due to how much pleasure, interest, and versatility that it offers.
The Chiesamonti makes an amazing debut in the impressive 2018 vintage. It is sourced from the Castelnuovo Berardenga, a town adjacent to San Felice where Le Trame comes from. The soils here are stonier and Chiesamonti has a distinctive sleek elegance. The texture and precision are really beautiful.
Boncie's Giovanna Morganti was given a farm by her father, who was a famous enologist in the area, and she set to planting 3ha in high density with mostly Sangiovese along with tiny amounts of Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, and Mammolo. The vines are tended following biodynamic principles.
Sadly, we get a modest allocation of Boncie's wines once per year. Once a vintage is gone, that's it. We strongly encourage you to pick up a mixed 4-pack while you can.
