Vintage after vintage, we find the Gevrey "Aux Echezeaux" incredibly fascinating and compelling.
While Gevrey-Chambertin is known for its meatiness and power, Aux Echezeaux is surprisingly elegant. It is located in the southern end of the region, right next to Morey-St.-Denis, and produces wines that are silkier and more delicate. Along with its signature intricacy, the old vines that the wine is sourced from give it a haunting depth.

Jouan's Aux Echezeaux takes Gevrey's textbook soil-inflected minerality and adds a beguiling cast of aromatics, and an enchanting textural allure and lift.
As we've written before, Jouan's wines are some of the most mysterious, beautiful, and subtle Burgundies I know. Once you adjust to their un-showy wavelength and whispering complexity, it's easy to become obsessed. The Gevrey "Aux Echezeaux" flaunts these qualities.
In 2023, the Aux Echezeaux is especially strong. The domaine thrives in vintages like 2023. In warm years, the wines are finely tuned, delivering both impact and energetic terroir imprints. Delicacy is married to an imposing, tensile presence. The purity of expression is impressive, especially considering the atypical scale that it works on.
Jouan's villages wines are among the Burgundies that we drink most often. They are simply gorgeous wines.
